Fate Breakers are reality-altering wonders that allow heroes to transcend their destiny. While the weakest of chosen adventurers can use their Fate Breaker to briefly surpass their limits, these powerful abilities scale with the power of their beholder. At the highest levels, Fate Breakers can threaten to kindle stars and destroy worlds.
A hero’s Fate Breaker has several strict requirements for activating. Firstly, a hero must not have used their Fate Breaker during that adventuring day — they can only be activated once before the hero must rest overnight. Secondly, each Fate Breaker can only be activated by rolling the maximum on a specific type of stat roll as indicated by the individual ability. Be warned that Fate Breakers cannot be triggered outside of combat unless they have the (Discovery) keyword. If the Dragonmaster decrees that a roll is trivial, frivolous, or in some other way is specifically made to attempt to trigger a Fate Breaker, they may decide that destiny has ignored your plea, and the Fate Breaker will not function.
When triggered, you can perform one Fate Breaker effect up to the value of the associated Core Stat. In many situations, high level Fate Breaker effects allow you to include weaker effects at the same time.
When your character’s Origin is chosen, choose a Fate Breaker. Aside from very specific circumstances and story-related events, a Fate Breaker cannot be changed. Choose a Fate Breaker that ties into your character’s story, goals, and arc.
